Dig Your Well Before Your Thirsty

So, I've been interviewing with Waddell & Reed. A fee based financial service company with its headquarters in Kansas City and branch offices all over the nation. I had my second interview last week. It lasted for about an hour and a half and went very well. I found out that I was one of two people of the initial twelve of us that they asked back for a second interview after taking the personality test. So, yes folks! I do have a personallity! yippy!

At the conclusion of the interview he told me to go and read a book... Okay... So, the book is named Dig Your Well Before Your Thirsty, written by Harvey Mackay and fill out this three page questionaire thingy.

The job sounded like it would be something that I would be interested in doing, but of course it does have its fallbacks. One of those being that it is a fee based service and if I am the "newby" who would want to pay me for financial advice when I haven't even balanced my checkbook in over a year. He told me himself that first year pay sucks... Within five years I would have the potential to make over $100k, not bad, but Sarah and myself don't plan on staying in Topeka for five or more years.

My current job, at Farm Bureau Financial Services and Insurance is going alright. I am underpaid for what I do, but I enjoy doing the conversions that will make us a more powerful insurance company. To date, we don't know of any other insurance company that is going through the process that we are currently working on completing. We just got a new district manager, supposedly he's very good at doing what he does. I've talked to some of the agents about my occupational opportunities and they mentioned that all of the agents that started under this new guy (who was working another district) made an average of $80k their first year with the company. I figured I'd talk with this guy and see what he's doing that the previous angent didn't. I wasn't interested in going into insurance under the new guy, but if I could make $80k my first year and still have a life I'd do it.

I've figured that I would continue the hunt for a decent job. I don't know if I like the idea of going straight out of college and into an independent contractor status making a commission based pay salary. As soon as I finish this up, I'm hitting monsterjobs.com. So, I am going to continue the hunt for a job that I think I'll like. Being a business major opens up to many doors... I just don't want to walk through the wrong one. I'll catch you all later.
