Gus's Life...
Sarah and I made a trip to the Humane Society a few weeks back and came across a little 7 week old male kitten. We decided to give him a loving home. He went straight the the animal hospital to be neutered and declawed. He seemed to be healthy other than the fact that vet was waiting for a skin irritation to clear up and for his stool to solidify. About a week passed without change and so he stayed at the animal hospital. Sarah and I left just last weekend and visited Gus before we hit the road. He seemed fine and ran back and forth between Sarah and Me. We didn't get back into town until Wednesday but received a call from the vet on Tuesday telling us that Gus was going down hill and fast. By the time we got to him on Wednesday night he was so week he couldn't even open one of his eyelids, meow, walk or lift his head. We decided then that he shouldn't have to be in that state and had him put to sleep, we were both in the room holding him while he received the two different injections. We were there when he took his last breath and the last beat of his little heart. The vet believed that Gus had a virus that attacks cats, and usually kills kittens. Looking at Gus that night I don't think that he would have made it much longer. He was a great kitten for the amount of time Sarah and I knew him. He never came home with us, but we visited and played with him for about an hour every night. He loved to nuzzle noses and bit thumbs. He will be missed... Sarah and I will probably get another kitten in time, until then, we'll have happy memories of little Gus.
