The Relay For Life
Wow, it's such a great experience to be a part of something that is so impacting in the lives of many. When you consider the thousands of relays that take place each year around the country, you have to be amazed that ours (Washburn Relay for Life) which is small in comparison to others, raised just under $20,000 for the American Cancer Society. It was a new experience for me going from food committee all the way to the set-up/logistics chair, but I think that everything went very well. Next year, I would prefer to have it indoors again, I wasn't fully for it being outside this year. On the other hand, It was cloudy, cold, and dark, which does signified whole finding of the cancer, the emotions involved and then the sunrises when you overcome it (remember those who didn't make it to sunrise). Cancer is a horrible thing, and hopefully in time we won't be doing the Relay for Life to search for a cure anymore, but instead do it in remembrance of those who didn't make it, and help pay to treat those without the available funds. It was a long night, but those people I met that are fighting cancer I will never forget. It was a cold night, but it was well worth it. It was a tiring night, but so is the fight against it. Thanks everyone who made the 3rd Annual Washburn Relay For Life something great.
